A WIGAN nursery is celebrating after being given a glowing report by education watchdogs.

Following a recent inspection by Ofsted inspectors, the Sure Start Centre nursery on Mornington Road, Hindley has been given an overall grade of “good,” with outstanding elements.

The report says that the achievement, behaviour and safety of the pupils were all good. The quality of the teaching at Hindley has also been classed as good while the leadership and management of the school has been judged as outstanding.

Some of the key findings of the report include:

l The majority of children had developed the skills and abilities needed to prepare for starting Reception;

l The children were developing independence;

l Staff managed children’s behaviour well and their concentration was good;

l Attendance of most children was good;

l Children’s health, safety and welfare needs are safeguarded well.

Ofsted inspector Gill Jones said: “It is clear to see how much children enjoy the activities, playing in the soapy water, making dough, looking at the giant snails and looking after Millie, the class rabbit.”

The report also praises Hindley for making outstanding progress since its previous inspection.

Hindley Sure Start Nursery headteacher Rachel Lewis said: “We are all extremely pleased with the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection which recognises the high quality provision at our school. It is important to us that all our children make good progress and develop the skills and attitudes needed to become successful learners.”

Wigan Council’s cabinet member for Children and Young People, Coun Susan Loudon, added: “The Sure Start Nursery at Hindley is going from strength to strength and this latest report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the centre.

“Our aim is to help our children and young people fulfil their potential and take full advantage of the opportunities that life offers them. Our best way of doing this is to invest in our future generations from a very early age. Nurseries such as Hindley are helping to set the standards and achieve this. Well done to everyone involved!”
