A WIGAN school is taking on an eco-challenge ... to help protect the rainforests.

Pupils at St Mark’s CE Primary School in Newtown, Wigan, are becoming more green fingered, as they prepare for the educational competition.

Sky Rainforest Rescue Schools Challenge, is an interactive online programme in which schools can undertake one of the three challenge topics, including: ‘Food We Eat’, ‘Stuff We Buy’ and ‘Energy We Use’.

Each class year will have to plan, develop and carry out actions from their topic that will educate and engage the whole school and provide them with useful knowledge about the differences they can take to help save the world’s rainforests.

The school will be in the running for a £1,000 cash prize if they complete a challenge before the June 17.
