A COUNCIL worker has been seeing what it’s like to be a college principal for a day.

Rachel Davies, an apprentice at Wigan Council, was delighted when she was asked to shadow Cath Hurst, Wigan and Leigh College Principal for a day during Apprenticeship Week.

Rachel is a former pupil of Golborne High School and now works for the Children and Young People Services as a Planning and Performance apprentice.

She is juggling her council role while studying her Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) in Business Administration at the college. Rachel was asked to shadow the principal as part of the college’s Apprenticeship Week celebrations. She said: “I have enjoyed and learnt so much today, I now have more understanding of how the college works and the many different departments it has.”

Cath Hurst said: “Having Rachel with me for the day has been most enjoyable and inspiring. We can learn a lot from apprentices, they not only bring new skills to an organisation but also innovation and enthusiasm.”
