A SECONDARY school has been saluted for achieving fairtrade status.

Haydock High has been awarded a Fairtrade Foundation Award after satisfying a string of challenging criteria.

Staff and pupils helped to write a school fairtrade policy, they have also sold and promoted fairtrade goods, set up a fairtrade steering group and learnt about fairtrade in at least two year groups and three subject areas.

Louise Hampson, the school’s fairtrade co-ordinator, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the work of pupils and staff has been recognised by this award.”
