School puts on a show for its 40th birthday

PUPILS of the past took a trip down memory lane as their old school marked its 40th birthday.
Winstanley Community Primary celebrated the landmark with four open days where former students and staff could view a mini-exhibition of photographs and documents while revelling in nostalgia.
Much of the organisation had been carried out by former teacher Margaret Hayward, who joined the school’s staff on 1975 straight from college and finally retired from the school earlier this summer after more than 37 years’ service.
But she remains involved in the school as a governor.
The school also felt it was time to celebrate its status as a community school, having enjoyed increasing success reaching out into the community across the Winstanley connurbation - reputedly the largest private new build housing estate in Europe - in recent years.
She said: “Over the past 40 years the school has gone from strength to strength and we felt the best way to celebrate this was by inviting as many former pupils as possible to come back to say hello.”
