WIGAN Council is recruiting volunteers to hear its school appeals.

An independent panel meets at the Town Hall in Wigan each month to hear appeals for children who cannot be offered a place at the school of their choice.

Applicants do not need to have any previous experience in this role.

Those who have a few hours to spare and who are interested in becoming a panel member, would be fully trained before taking their place on a panel.

Meanwhile the deadline is nearing for parents of children in their final year at primary to apply for a secondary school place. Families have until October 31 to make their list of preferred choices.
