WIGAN’s exciting new educational project held a successful open day.

Employers such as Heinz and Energos, as well as multinational companies such as Siemens, helped make Wigan University Technical College’s event at the Wigan Investment Centre “very well represented.”

These sponsors, along with many other organisations who attended, are supporting the curriculum by providing real projects, work experience and mentoring which will benefit the learners.

Principal Chris Hatherall said that this “encouraging” level of support was “vital” for the success of the UTC as it strives to get learners “work ready” for employment, apprenticeships or University.

The next employer event will be held in early April and the UTC are hoping to make contact with many more firms interested in support.

Parents interested in their children attending should attend Wigan Life Centre on February 21 (starting at 6.30pm) by registering at www.wiganutc.org or call 0300 365 3675.

Chairman of UTC Wigan Academy Trust, businessman Martin Ainscough, said: “We hope to attract ambitious students who want to study in a business-like environment and who want to excel. The UTC partners and facilities will inspire all students.”
