A-LEVEL English students got an interesting insight into the life of a journalist when well-known writer Bibi Lynch visited a Wigan sixth form college.

Ms Lynch, who has written for practically every publication in the country, including The Guardian, The Independent and Grazia magazine, spoke to teenagers at Winstanley College about life as a freelance writer and reporter and gave an honest account of the highs and lows of the industry.

As well as giving some good advice to the students, she told funny anecdotes from her career, including an interview she did with a rather famous supermodel with diva-like qualities!

Bibi said she was very impressed with the quality of the students’ work and commented that she really loved the vibe in college.

She has also decided to read A Streetcar Named Desire after sitting in on one of the students’ literature lessons!

Tutor Fiona Salt, who organised the visit, said: “We really enjoyed Bibi’s visit; she had some interesting stories to tell and the students came away with a clearer idea of what pursuing a career in journalism entails.”
