Youngsters to sing at RL World Cup Final

A TALENTED group of Wigan youngsters is taking centre stage at one of the most highly anticipated sporting events this year.

Following the successful performance by the RL Hughes Primary’s choir at the quarter final at the DW stadium, the school has been selected to sing as part of a choir with Chant Productions at the Rugby League World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand, today, at Old Trafford.

And headteacher Monica Middlehurst says representing their country at the global event has definitely boosted morale at the Ashton school.

She said: “We are very proud of our children and all the hard work they have put in to preparing the songs which include the national anthems of Australia and New Zealand.

“Both the staff and the children were so surprised to be asked back to perform again and had to learn the new national anthem in preparation. But to be honest we always hoped that we’d be singing our own national anthem.”
