A WIGAN man who was convicted of rape charges against a woman was this week starting an eight-year jail sentence.
Judge David Aubrey, QC, described 43-year-old John Partington as “controlling” and said that the offences were so serious that only a lengthy custodial sentence could be imposed.
Partington, of Greenford Close, Orrell, had been convicted by a Liverpool Crown Court jury following a trial after denying all the offences.
He was found guilty of nine offences involving eight rapes and one of assault causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard that the assault involved him putting his hands around his victim’s throat.
Steven Swift, defending, said that Partington was a hard-working man and a loving father, whose only concern was for his children.
