A man has died after a collision with a car.

Shortly before 11.10am on Saturday police were called to Chorley Road in Westhoughton, to a report of a collision.

Officers attended and discovered a red Citroen C2 had collided with a pedestrian who had been crossing the carriageway. The Citroen had been travelling from the direction of Horwich/Blackrod towards Westhoughton.

The pedestrian, an elderly man, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

The driver of the Citroen was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information.

Police Constable Peter Cunningham of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time and we have specially trained officers providing them with support.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or who was driving in the area and may have dash-cam footage of the collision to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.”
