GARDENS, paths and a canal towpath were given an early spring clean as council house tenants, their landlords and a supermarket giant joined forces.
Staff from Wigan and Leigh Housing, residents of the high rise blocks and employees from the Tesco Extra store carried out the big tidy-up around Scholes.
Dave Bainbridge, Housing Group Manager for Wigan and Leigh Housing, says: “It is a priority for our tenants that the areas they live in are tidy and litter-free.
“We manage 22,700 properties for the council and work closely with groups representing the concerns and needs of tenants in every area.
“The high rise forum group were keen to organise a clean up of Scholes Village and we are delighted to work together with Tesco on this – every little really does help!”
Lindsay Seddon, Community Champion for the Tesco store, said: “We are always looking at ways we can get involved with local groups and projects and we were really pleased to help local residents.”
