A RAPPER who called for all Wiganers to be blocked on Twitter because of the abuse he had received from the town has been invited to this week’s town centre Christmas lights switch-on!
And the star’s team certainly didn’t rule out the possibility today.
In an attempt to end the Example’s social media war on the town, a councillor has invited the London-born star to join for this Thursday’s festivities along with other celebrities.
Coun Chris Ready (above) had previously stated that “maybe the rapper needs rapping” after the news that the musician, real name Elliot Gleave, tweeted that he had had so much earache from Wigan folk that there should be a blanket ban on us all using the medium.
But now he says he wants to buy Example a drink in the hope of putting their differences behind them and to demonstrate that the vast majority of Wigan folk are decent, friendly people.
After offending some by posting “What Twitter needs is a block button for the whole of Wigan. Most abuse is from Wigan. Are there any nice people in Wigan?” because he had received multiple death threats from a group of Wigan bullies on the networking site, Example later apologised on a local radio station and claimed that it is only banter and he is mostly having a laugh when he posts comments on Twitter.
And admitting he had never heard of the star before the Wigan bashing, Coun Ready is looking forward to hearing his music.
Coun Chris Ready said: “We’d like him to see Wigan as it is and not as he perceives it. I’m sure he will change his mind once I have taken him around, I will but him a pint and a pie!
“I will also arrange for him to see the Mayor, Coun Myra Whiteside, as he mentioned the Mayor of Wigan in one of his tweets.
“I’m sure that we will all give him a warm welcome and I’ve still never heard him rap so I will look forward to that. If he wants to do a Wigan rap that will be brilliant.”
Example’s stage name arose due to his initials being the abbreviation, E.G.
A spokesman for Example has stated they are looking in to whether he can attend Wigan’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Example’s new album, The Evolution of Man, will be released on Monday, November 19.
