WIGAN could soon be finally rid of one of its biggest eyesores.
And with the demolition of the former police HQ, in Harrogate Street, could come new jobs.
Only months ago, the current owner of the site said there was little prospect of anything happening to it.
But Goldcrest says it is now in negotiations with a commercial operator who wants to buy most of the site.
Due to the delicate nature of such talks, it is not being disclosed which company has shown an interest in the station, nor even what kind of development it will be.
But chief executive officer Michael Collins said there was a “better than evens chance” of the deal coming off early in the new year.
