Police spent almost an hour searching a Wigan park for a body in what eventually turned out to be a false alarm.

Emergency services were called to Walmesley Park in Ince at around 8.25am on Friday.

Police combed the park off Manchester Road and after speaking with the person who called them to the scene confirmed there was no body there.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) also attended the incident.

The emergency services left the park shortly before 9.15am.
