A FAMILY were horrified after discovering a large metal bolt in a burger served at a party attended by several young children.

Kirsty Chrimes and her partner Adrian Rigby found the industrial bolt inside a Tesco peppered beef steak bought at the supermarket’s store on the Loom development in Leigh.

The couple immediately rushed the product back to the store, where they were offered a free replacement pack or refund and Tesco promised to look into the incident.

However, Kirsty, from Lowton, says she remains concerned about what might have happened if a child at the party and not one of the adult diners had picked the faulty burger.

Kirsty, 32, said: “We were just shocked. You would think a supermarket like Tesco would make sure everything was right before they put it on the shelves.

“There were quite a few kids there, so I’m just glad it wasn’t one of them.

“It looked like it had broken off a machine. We asked Tesco if they would take the steaks off the shelves but they said they thought it was just the one pack.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “We were concerned to learn of this issue and we will be investigating thoroughly with our supplier and will of course keep our customer updated.”
