A FAMILY is mourning the tragic loss of a Wigan dad who has died from bowel cancer at the age of 33.

Ric Coggins, of Canon Close, Standish, died less than 12 months after he was diagnosed with the illness.

His heartbroken wife Carrie was today caring for the couple’s two-year-old son Corey and spoke of her pride at her husband’s brave battle with the condition that sadly ended his life.

The couple married at their home on New Year’s Eve in an emotional ceremony with close friends and family as they spent their final months together.

Carrie said: “Corey keeps asking where his dad is? He doesn’t fully understand what has happened but I tell him that his dad is in the sky smiling down on him.

“Ric was determined not to let this beat him. Every doctor who had seen him said they can’t believe how young he was and that they would never usually test anyone at his age for bowel cancer.

“This is why I feel it is so important to make younger people and doctors more aware.”
