AN investigation has been launched after a cannabis farm was discovered in a Wigan home.
Emergency services were called to Lichfield Grove in Ashton at around 9pm last night (Wednesday).
Upon inspection it was found there was an electricity overload and when firefighters gained entrance to the adjoining house, which was empty at the time, they found a cannabis farm.
Police were called to the scene and as of this morning have been unable to locate the occupants.
Watch manager Shaun Aspey from Wigan fire station said: “The potential to endanger the life of a young mum and her two children was high.
“We need members of the public to be vigilant about cannabis farms. If they see anything suspicious they need to contact the police immediately.
“This type of incident is very common at the moment.”
A police spokesman added: “Nobody was in the house where the cannabis farm was found and as a result no arrests have been made.
“We are now trying to locate the occupants of the property and ask anyone with any information to contact us as soon as they can.”
Anyone who can help the police with their inquiries is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
