A MAN trying to retrieve his parrot from a tree in Wigan had to be rescued by firefighters.
At around 2.15pm emergency services attended a set of playing fields just off Ince Green Lane, Ince, after a man became stuck in a tree as he was attempting to rescue his pet.
The man, who was around 30 years of age, was unable to clamber down as his hands were full with the bird.
Earlier in the day at around 11am, firefighters also helped a nine-year-old boy from Pemberton who had fallen after he had been climbing trees near the railway at Alexandra Park.
The youngster was taken to Wigan Infirmary to be treated for various cuts and bruises.
