VISITORS enjoying the Christmas lights switch-on event are being given an extra treat, with free parking available.

Just days after exclusively announcing that a star from X-Factor will be switching on the annual festive lights on Thursday, November 14, town centre bosses have also announced there will be free parking.

Wigan Council is providing free parking on entry after 3pm from Thursday, November 14 and free Sunday parking from November 17 too on council-operated multi-storey car parks.

The big event takes place between 4pm and 7.30pm in Market Place and provides an action packed night of free, festive, family entertainment launching late night shopping in the town with stores open until 8pm.

The evening is hosted by radio presenters Danny Bee and Luke Marsden, with acts, including Amy B, Olivia Archbold, Zoe Unsworth, Myth of Unity and Scott Chapman performing on stage.

Mike Matthews, Wigan town centre manager said: “Wigan’s Christmas Light Switch On promises to be a super, action packed evening, with free parking on entry after 3pm in the town’s multi storey car parks, don’t miss out on our live, free festive event.”

Wigan town centre Christmas events also invite shoppers to collect free Christmas colouring sheets from the information desk in the Grand Arcade for the youngsters to enjoy.

On Sunday, November 17, Wigan town centre’s Santa and his reindeer parade starts at 1pm from Mesnes Park arriving at Market Place at 1.30pm. The acts and performers will entertain the crowds along with Santa and his herd of reindeers until 4.30pm.
