ANN Johnson, who has been a volunteer at the Wigan and Leigh Hospice charity shop in Ashton-in-Makerfield for 25 years, threw a retirement party at the town’s Brian Boru Irish Club with colleagues and the hospice’s communications and public relations officer Edwin Matthews.

The same day Brian Boru bikers John Murphy, John Allen and Neil Turner, who took part in a sponsored ride from the club to Southport and back along with Ant Hitchen, who completed the feat dressed as Elvis, presented Mr Matthews with a cheque for £2,265.
