A WIGAN community’s green fingers are twitching at the approach of its annual Best Garden competition.

Open to every household and business premises covered by Shevington Parish Council, the popular event is again organised by the local Gardening Club.

Entry is free and those interested can enter classes including: best front garden; best rear garden; best hanging basket or best commercial premises.

Every household to enter receives a discount voucher for Bewley’s hardware store. Entry forms are available from Shevington Library, the Post Office, Top Shop, Appley Bridge Cost Cutter and sponsor Bewley’s and must be submitted by the end of June. Judging takes place during July.

Winners will be notified in good time for them to attend the prize-giving at Shevington Fete on Saturday, August 2.

Spokesman Ted Unwin said: “We certainly look forward to visiting and to judging the entries because the quality seems to get better every year.”
