Ghostbusters!

A gang of karate-kicking spook investigators are on the trail of some of Wigan's scariest haunts!

The Northern Souls group has been out at some of the area's best-known spooky spots filming for a series they hope to sell to the Paranormal Channel.

The man with the camera is Iain Cash from Winstanley, who spent four years working on TV's Most Haunted with Yvette Fielding and Derek Acorah.

Three of the group, who are all friends from the Wigan area, are black belts in karate while Steve Lowe is their 5th dan sensei.

They have already filmed at Haigh Hall, the old Pagefield (Rylands Mill) and the Springfield Hotel.

Iain said: "We were filming at Haigh Hall with medium David Traynor who was channelling a spirit but for some reason it took a dislike to one of the crew and started shouting at him and lashing out.

"David was warning us to keep a safe distance, but we were thinking 'it's okay he's a fifth dan – it's not us who should be worried'."

At the Springfield Hotel they recorded a sound like a dog whimpering in the cellar, while at Pagefield stones were thrown at them and one of the group saw a figure on the top floor.

Iain added: "He's not been able to sleep since. When we went back the next day the builders asked us what we'd seen. He told them he'd seen a tall, thin man with a beard, and they just nodded and said they'd seen him as well."

At Haigh Hall marbles were pushed around a table by an invisible hand, strange noises were recorded and David made contact with a ghost.

Iain said: "I've always had a morbid curiosity about death. Becoming freelance has given me the opportunity to explore my hometown and find out what really goes on in the night."
