TWO sorry-looking areas in Wigan are to be given a green lift this spring.

Pemberton councillors Paul and Jeanette Prescott have secured money from the Neighbourhood Housing Forum Fund to spruce up Worsley Green, plus nearby Worsley Street and Lambton Street. They will then match fund the monies from their Brighter Borough Fund.

Coun Jeanette Prescott said: “Years ago we had flower beds put into Worsley Green as it was the main centre point of the estate. But unfortunately weeds kept coming through. So now we are putting in new topsoil with mesh and wood chipping across the top to stop weeds growing.

“We have been given £2,695 from the Neighbourhood Fund and we have matched £673 from our Brighter Borough Fund.

“It will also fund the two big grass areas in Lambton Street and Worsley Street.”
