STAFF and shoppers were evacuated from a busy shopping centre in Wigan amid fears of a chemical leak.
Members of the public could sense a strange smell and felt their eyes and throat burning as they were in The Grand Arcade, in Wigan.
Centre managers called the emergency services and evacuated the centre at 2pm today (Saturday).
Firefighters, police and paramedics attended the scene.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: “We have not found anything at the moment.
“Crews have been monitoring the situation with specialist equipment.
“The centre was evacuated as a precaution, but there appears to be nothing to worry about.
“Hopefully we will get it resolved in the next hour.
“It is nothing sinister.”
