PUPILS enjoyed a summer experience at a Wigan hair salon.

Tyler Lee Hair Company, in Pemberton, set up a hair and beauty course with Lamberhead Extended Services for year 10 and 11 pupils at St Peter’s High School and Abraham Guest High School during the summer holidays.

The aim was to give youngsters something to do during the long break – and to introduce them to life in a salon to see if it is something they would like to do in future.

Donna Denton, salon owner, said: “I set this up because I believe it is better for young people to do something during the holidays rather than just becoming bored and sitting around.

“We did competitions for them, as encouragement to continue learning.

“We do work with schools and offer an opportunity for youngsters in the local community to prepare them for a career in hairdressing.

“We help students make the right decisions, as when they are 16 it is hard, so we are given them something to focus on. It was a really worthwhile experience.”

She also thanked suppliers GHD, Paul Mitchell, Collection 2000 and Goldwell who gave students goodie bags.
