POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was hit with a hammer and a shot fired at a flat in a bizarre incident on Saturday afternoon.

The 24-year-old woman was walking aloing Rutland Road in Tyldesley at around 3pm when she was approached by three men who’d got out of an old shape, dark coloured Audi car while a fourth stayed inside.

The men asked her where a man lived and when she said she did not know, she was hit on the head with a hammer.

The men left her and walked to a house on Rutland Road, where a shot was fired into a ground floor window, causing damage. It is believed the men also used a hammer to cause damage to a car outside the address before returning to the Audi which then drove off on Shakerley Road towards Tyldesley Road.

Thankfully, the woman had only superficial injuries and no one else was injured.

Anyone who saw the incident or has any information should contact the Police at Leigh, on 0161 856 7225 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. All information received will be treated confidentially.
