WIGAN men have raised £9,000 by running for a cancer campaign.

The RUN4ALIFE event was organised by Wigan Rotary Club to raise money for the Everyman Campaign for research into men’s cancers.

The 5K run, organised by Wigan Rotary Club, is now in its sixth year and has become an annual fund-raising fixture.

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez received the cheque on behalf of Everyman and urged all Latics supporters to get behind this year’s event which will be held on Sunday September 25 at Haigh Hall.

New for this year will be a 10k run for serious runners and a 5k fun run for families.

In total, Wigan Rotary Club has donated £60,000 for research into testicular and prostate cancer.

Colin Wilkinson, Wigan Rotary President, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part and their sponsors, and to Wigan Athletic for their help in promoting the event.”
