Hundreds join Reindeer Run

HUNDREDS of race-goers took part in the first ever Reindeer Run to raise money for Wigan Hospitals charity - Three Wishes.

The event was brought about to help raise funds for a new oncology unit at Wigan Infirmary as well as to help make all three Wigan hospitals nicer places to visit.

The five kilometre fun run at the DW Stadium saw families and other runners turn out to support the charity on Sunday morning.

Elizabeth Titley, event organiser and Fundraising Officer for Three Wishes said: “The inaugural Wigan Reindeer Run was a tremendous success, with over 120 people signing up, donning antlers and running shoes. There was a fantastic family atmosphere at the Stadium and a real festive spirit.

“Plenty of staff from the Hospital, took part as well as lots from the local community, the eldest reindeer runner was 80 and the youngest just two. Race Day had the best day of the week weather wise and plenty of cheering onlookers to keep the runners going.

“It was a touching sight to see all the participants who’d come out early on a Sunday, to show their support for cancer and Heart patients at the Hospital. We now want to make this part of the Wigan Christmas calendar, with every year runners and walkers from the local community starting off the festive season by raising money for Three Wishes, their local hospital charity.”
