HUNDREDS of homes are without electricity following a major power cut.
Electricity North West confirmed 939 customers in Standish and Shevington Moor lost power at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.
Problems were reported around the Crow Orchard Road area and as far east as the houses near Standish Community High School and along Preston Road.
The power cut was caused by an underground cable being damaged, though the exact circumstances are still unclear.
Engineers are at the scene and hope to have most customers re-connected by 6.30pm. Generators will be brought in if the electricity supply cannot be restored.
Electricity North West said all but 106 homes were re-connected by 9pm.
A generator was brought on the site for the properties not on the grid and engineers continued working into the night to repair the problem.
