Hundreds turn out for Remembrance Day (with slideshow)
Hundreds turned out to pay their respects to Wigan's war dead at Remembrance Day services across the borough.
This year's service took on extra significance as it marked 90 years since the end of the First World War in 1918.
At 11am, the town – along with all towns, cities and villages across Britain – came to a standstill, to commemorate soldiers who lost their lives in battle, along with those currently serving in the forces. Rector of Wigan, the Rev Ray Hutchinson and the Mayor, Coun Rona Winkworth took part in the service in Wigan town centre.
Other services were held at war memorials all over the borough, including Leigh, Hindley, Standish and Ashton, where a member of Trinity Girls' Brass Band sounded the Last Post.
