WIGAN folk are being asked for help in tracking down a train passenger turned iPod and phone thief.
Officers from British Transport Police are investigating a theft which took place on board a train at Wigan North Western rail station on Monday February 6.
And today they published a CCTV picture of a man whom they say may be able to help them with their inquiries.
The victim was travelling from London to Preston and, at around 10pm left his seat to use the toilet.
While the passenger was away from his seat a thief struck and stole an iPod and Blackberry mobile phone which had been left unattended.
PC Ray Skelly, investigating for BTP, said: “The victim only left his seat for a few minutes, but the thief was clearly waiting to strike and did so before leaving the train at Wigan North Western.
“I am now appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.
“I have also released a CCTV image of a man I would like to speak to in connection with the incident.”
Police have also issued a general safety warning to rail passengers to keep valuables with them at all times.
Anyone with information about the incident or who recognises the man pictured is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
