Inquest opens into Charlotte Cash train death

The inquest has been opened into the death of Charlotte Cash who died at Wigan North Western station.

The mother-of-four was killed after being hit by a train on Friday, February 17.

Commuters on the south-bound platform - including Olympic athlete Jenny Meadows - were left stunned after witnessing the incident just after 3.15pm.

Witnesses said Charlotte, who lived in Marsh Green, had been texting just moments before the incident. Others on the packed platform reported the 35-year-old tried passing her handbag to a stranger before jumping in front of the Virgin Rail train.

British Transport Police confirmed the 35-year-old died at the scene. The incident was not treated as suspicious.

The inquest opened at Bolton Coroners Court on February 27.
