AN investigation is underway after a late night blaze at a vacant property.
Firefighters from Hindley, Atherton and Leigh were called to Westleigh Lane in Leigh at around 11.20pm on Friday night to reports of smoke coming from a window,
Upon their arrival they discovered a fire had broken out on the ground floor.
It was brought to the their attention that there could have been a young family inside but after a search of the property, this transpired to not be the case and it was found to be empty.
The crews brought the blaze under control but there was significant smoke damage.
Early indications suggest the fire started at a sofa on the ground floor and police were called to the scene to investigate a possible deliberate ignition.
