A TOTAL of 258 jobs have been saved at JJB Sport’s Wigan headquarters although the Robin Park store will close.
Rival retailer Sports Direct confirmed that they would keep the Martland Mill site open with 218 warehouse staff and 40 head office staff retained.
But 153 employees at the HQ have been made redundant.
Sports Direct have acquired 20 JJB stores, securing a further 550 jobs nationwide.
However more than 2,000 JJB employees have been made redundant as 133 stores will be closed.
Richard Fleming from administrator’s KPMG, said: “Unfortunately a buyer could only be found for 20 stores on a going concern basis.
“All staff made redundant as a result of store closures have had their arrears of wages and holiday entitlements paid in full.
“Our team of employment specialists will be supporting staff on completing redundancy forms and putting them in touch with job seeker services.”
