A JOGGER was left with horrific facial injuries after being ambushed.

Shortly before 9.50pm on Thursday, police were called to a house on Manchester Road, Tyldesley, following reports that a man had been assaulted.

Officers found the 31-year-old with serious facial wounds. He was quickly taken to hospital for treatment and is said to be in a stable condition.

The victim told police that he frequently runs along a path off Upton Avenue (near to Manchester Road) that runs from Tyldesley to Leigh.

While running somewhere along that route he was set upon and seriously assaulted.

It is unknown how many offenders were involved.

He made his way home and emergency services were called.

Det Sgt Paul Rollinson said: “Due to the level of violence used we believe this is more likely to have been a targeted attack.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5307.
