A JUDGE has begun summing up the case against a Wigan man, who is on trial denying a string of sex attacks, including rapes of 10 young girls.

The allegations against Ronald Bain, who is now 62, span 25 years, and involve children aged between six and 16 years.

After hearing more than four weeks of evidence at Liverpool Crown Court, Judge David Harris, QC, yesterday began his summing up and the jury is expected to retire later this week.

Northern Irishman Bain, of Smithwood Avenue, Hindley, denies a total of 45 sex offences, beginning in 1985 and continuing until last year.

His alleged victims have given evidence against him, and told how he allegedly molested them, often on frequent occasions.

Two claim that he raped them, one when she was 12 and the other when she was 16.

Bain has told the court that he had not committed any of the offences, and had been shocked when the allegations emerged.
