A 60-year-old man who suffered a serious head injury in Wigan has now died.

In the early hours of Monday police received a report from Wigan Royal Infirmary that a man had been brought in with a serious head injury.

He remained in hospital and has sadly died today.

It is believed the man suffered his injury outside Chicago Rock on King Street some time around 1.30am.

It is believed he was pushed over before falling backwards, striking his head on the pavement.

A 29-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has now been re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in custody for police questioning.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place later today to establish the cause of death.

Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe said: “This incident has now taken a tragic turn and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.”
