HYGIENE standards in Wigan’s professional kitchens are at an all time high according to the latest figures.

A year after the new star rating system was introduced in the borough, cafes, restaurants, school dinner services, old folks’ homes, nurseries and anywhere else that dishes up snacks and meals to the public have been graded under a star system.

Following an article run last year in the Wigan Evening Post, Wigan Council have revealed that 75 per cent of premises in the borough have a higher rating than this time last year.

An eatery can receive between zero and five stars, the former meaning that standards of cleanliness and safety were so poor that the establishment is just shy of being shut down.
