LEP TV goes live - inside a Preston pub
The Lancashire Evening Post is to give readers a unique insight into a dying breed - the historic local pub.
On Tuesday (May 20) LEP TV will beam video live onto lep.co.uk from inside one of the city's most popular establishments - the Black Horse in Friargate, Preston.
Using state-of-the-art technology, we will be talking to regulars about the increasing decline of the city's pub trade.
At one time Preston could boast a pub for every day of the year. Now they are closing down at the alarming rate of one a month.
There is barely a community across the city that has not had to say goodbye to a traditional pub over the past few years.
Rising costs, crippling rent rates and cheap supermarket booze have all been blamed for the decline.
Earlier this month the Lancashire Evening Post also revealed dozens of Preston pubs were on the market in a sell-off worth more than 1.7million.
Figures show sales of beer dropped 10% in December 2007 compared to the previous year. Fifty million fewer pints are being sold a month.
The county's industry experts say the local pub could die out completely in Preston within three years - unless landlords start diversifying.
So does the landlord of one of the city's most popular 'locals' agree? What do the punters think?
The Lancashire Evening Post is poised to make history with the live broadcast on our award-winning website.
And you can also get involved with the action, using our special forum where you can have your say about or live coverage and on problems facing the pub trade.
LEP Live, which will take place from noon to 2pm on Tuesday, is thought to be a first for the UK's regional press.
