Families united by grief in hospital waiting room

My family has spent the last couple of weeks visiting my husband in critical care at hospital.

Each day we sit in the waiting room with people in the same situation, just waiting for news of their loved ones (the many times we visit the clinics upstairs, not realising the heartache that is going on downstairs).

We have shared our time in the waiting room with people from all walks of life - Asians, Europeans, West Indians and fellow Lancastrians - all of us sharing our troubles with each other and sympathising.

Some days these families faced tragic news. We cried with them for their loss and hugged complete strangers. Mothers, fathers, sisters and

brothers... we all cried the same and hurt the same.

It is such a shame that people have to be put in such circumstances before we realise that life is too short and we are all human.

We are still there each day and praying my husband pulls through. Thank you to all those families we have shared our time with. Even a nod and a smile works wonders.

My family wish you peace and happiness. May your god go with you always.

Few honourable representatives

Have our MPs been in a meeting to discuss what line to take when, one by one, they are exposed as the equivalent of benefits cheats?

The constant cry of "Everything is within the rules," is sickening.

Why doesn't one of them add: "Of course we made the rules so that we would never have to spend any money of our own."

If I ever hear any of that lot being referred to as "the right honourable member" again, I shall be physically sick.

The problem is that even now someone will be plotting how to sell the public a new system which in reality does not diminish their way of life one iota.

Compare claims to pensioner income

I wonder if other readers of your paper view with disgust the allegations with regard to MPs' claims?

When the basic state pension is less than the 100 a week that MPs claim in food allowances, it is obvious to all and sundry that something is drastically wrong.

I hasten to add that my chauffeur, butler, housekeeper, cook and gardener are paid for out of my old age pension in accordance with the rules.

Nationalise homes

The problem over MPs second homes could easily be solved. Nationalise the various dwellings and when they cease to be MPs they could be taken over by the new ones.

It won't ever happen because there's no money in it for them and that's why most of them become MPs in the first place. There will be one or two exceptions to this, notably Frank Field.

Who said it was ok?

Whilst I, no doubt like thousands of others, have been disgusted at the

expenses claimed by MPs as revealed over the past few days, there seems to have been little or nothing said about the faceless bureaucrats who have authorised these claims for payment.

I think these people should be named and shamed as well.
