People deserve nothing less than the truth

I AM writing in response to your article Wigan Evening Post, February 19 “By-election is called”.

I had no qualms providing my signature to help trigger the by-election for the beginning of April 2013.

The timing is significant because from April 2013, the people of Pemberton will be subjected to the most vicious and punitive cuts to their incomes in living memory, which will have a devastating impact on their lives.

My anger is made worse by the fact that our Labour Council is co-operating with this Tory/Lib Dem Coalition government, by bringing forward the Tories’ Universal Credit by six months, to use the people of Pemberton ward as “guinea pigs” for the Tory experiment.

Labour’s complicit conduct is nothing short of pure deception in their alleged opposition to what is happening.

The people of Pemberton ward deserve nothing less than the truth.

A happy competition winner

I recently entered the competition for the Wigan Warriors away shirt and had the good fortune of winning it.

I received it through the post on Saturday and would like to take this opportunity of thanking the Wigan Evening Post in conjunction with the Wigan Warriors.

Improve PE lessons in our schools

With childhood obesity at record levels it comes as no surprise that according to the latest Ofsted report, school children are not being physically challenged in their PE lessons at both primary and secondary school level.

Encouraging pupils to choose healthy eating options will only ever form part of the solution to tackle the growing problem of childhood obesity. Without more strenuous exercise through fun, competitive PE lessons, an improved diet will only go so far.

For many pupils, PE lessons provide a chance to express their talents, especially if they are not suited to traditional theory-based classroom learning.

Studies have shown that pupils who get the most from their PE lessons tend to have far greater concentration levels in other classes and therefore achieve better grades. PE lessons in school must be made more strenuous and worthwhile; otherwise I fear the already oversized waistlines of school children will continue to grow out of control.

UKIP North West MEP.
