Actress Lauren chasing the dream

An actress from Wigan is chasing the American dream at a famous talent school in Hollywood.

Former Byrchall High School pupil Lauren Baldwin, who famously appeared in the Beatles' Free as a Bird video in 1996, has been offered a place at the prestigious TVI Studios in Los Angeles.

She is currently attending an intensive acting and presenting course, which will be followed by practical training at the studios.

She is following in the footsteps of several Hollywood stars, including Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria.

Dad Roy, from Winstanley, said: "Lauren loves seeing how the industry works in the USA.

"As part of the course, she has met Hollywood casting directors from film and television from shows such as Ugly Betty and The Young and The Restless.

"She's doing really well, and a lot of interest has been shown in her performances. She is in the process of applying for a US visa and is living in West Hollywood.

"She is making the most of the fabulous weather and celebrity neighbours."

Lauren is a former member of the Wigan-based Willpower Theatre Group and studied at Winstanley College before being trained in Manchester by the tutors who coached talent such as Anna Friel, Suranne Jones and other high profile young British actors to stardom.

Her face will be familiar to British audiences from appearances in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Shameless and Waterloo Road, and she has even performed at the Edinburgh Festival.
