Anti-social neighbour is jailed
A NEIGHBOUR from hell was such a bad and persistent nuisance that he has been jailed.
Wigan County Court heard that John Unsworth had breached an anti-social behaviour injunction – issued last year for harassing and verbally abusing nearby residents – by doing exactly the same thing again. Unsworth, of Oxford Road, Atherton, was arrested by the police for the injunction breach and the court has now imposed a nine-month prison term for repeated anti-social behaviour.
Neil Turner, Chairman of Wigan and Leigh Housing Board, said: “Over the last 10 years Wigan and Leigh Housing has played a major role in transforming the Council’s housing stock and estates.
“Sadly there is a small minority who cause problems. In October last year we strengthened our specialist Anti-Social Behaviour team and gave them the brief to get tougher on the idiots who cause trouble.
“This latest successful case sends out a clear message to those who misbehave that we will use all the powers available to us to protect our many good tenants.
“Not only has the troublesome neighbour gone to prison, he will now face the prospect of being evicted. Once evicted he can forget about becoming one of our tenants again.
“We have already excluded more than 100 people from our housing register, Mr Unsworth could well be joining them.”
