Armed raid at bookies
Police are hunting two men after a violent armed robbery on a bookies in Leigh.
Shortly before 8pm on Friday 24, police were called to an incident at Betfred betting shop on West Leigh Road in Leigh following reports of an armed robbery.
Officers attending the incident found that staff had been threatened by two men who were wielding knives.
No descriptions of the suspects have been released.
The armed robbers made off with a cash sum. It is not known at this time how much money was stolen.
It is believed that one of the knives used by the men was a machete, which was left behind after the thieves had made their getaway. Police have seized the weapon.
Police say the security glass at the counter had also been smashed.
Nobody was injured during the armed robbery and police inquiries are ongoing.
This is the second armed robbery at the West Leigh Street bookies in three years.
In 2006 it was held up by three masked men who threatened staff with guns and knives and the thieves demanded that the staff hand over a large quantity of cash.
