Biker braves the rain for charity

You have to have a good reason to go biking in weather like this - but that is certainly the case for Peter Thompson who is braving all kinds of foul elements in a charitable quest.

Peter, 44, of Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, is in training for a karate challenge he is organising in aid of Rainbow House.

This specialist centre in Mawdesley looks after his six-year-old son

Paul, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

Besides sponsors Peter is trying to enlist fellow martial arts experts who will repeatedly perform the 'kata' – a karate warming-up exercise.

As part of his training for the March event Peter was out cycling in Billinge yesterday when he was soaked by a drain gushing water 20ft into the air.
