Bouncers’ sentence is delayed

THE sentencing of two Wigan nightclub bouncers, whose vicious attack on a clubber left him with a perforated bowel, has been delayed.

Lucca Curri and Matthew Foy were due to learn their fate this week but the judge put this back until March 30.

Judge David Harris, QC, made that decision after hearing that Curri has two autistic children and he expressed concerns about their welfare if Curri is jailed.

The 37-year-old of Acorn Street, Newton-le-Willows, had been convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm and Foy, 24, of Pilling Lane, Chorley, was convicted of assault by beating.

The victim, Martin Robinson, spent four months in hospital after the assault and had to undergo a number of operations. The jury has heard that on April 2 last year while Foy held Mr Robinson, his colleague, Curri, punched him and he was thrown to the ground.

While he curled up into a ball to protect himself he was kicked in the stomach and punched by the defendants despite him screaming for them to leave him alone. He was then thrown out on the pavement outside the Indiependence night club in King Street West and at hospital it was found that Mr Robinson had suffered a perforated bowel.

The court heard that the 23-year-old victim suffers from Crohn’s Disease and takes immunosuppressant drugs and consequently was prone to suffer a perforated bowel.

He had to undergo surgery to remove part of his bowel and he needed 20 stitches and has left him with a 6ins scar.

“He was devastated to have part of his bowel removed and feels he will have health problems for the rest of his life,” said Robert Wynn Jones, prosecuting.

Curri and Foy were both further remanded on bail to await sentence on March 30.
