Brave callum in cancer fight
A fouteen-year-old Wigan boy who battled bone cancer after being misdiagnosed for 18 months has launched a new fight.
Callum Flynn is raising awareness to make sure other people are diagnosed quicker than he was, and launching a campaign to raise funds for Bone Cancer Research.
Pound the Streets is the name of a five-day campaign which ends on Callum's 15th birthday.
He hopes to get everyone he can to donate 1 and mark themselves off on a special map.
Callum, from Leigh, learned on his 14th birthday last year that he had osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in his right leg. The pain and swelling he had been suffering for 18 months had been put down to growing pains and a virus.
But a simple X-ray revealed a large tumour on his knee.
The Bedford High School pupil underwent intensive chemotherapy and had surgery to remove the diseased bone.
Callum said: "I think this campaign is a good idea to help other children with this disease, because I don't want them to get misdiagnosed like I did."
Leigh MP Andy Burnham is also supporting Callum and his family.
