Cash boost for little Naomi

Thank you so much. That is the message from the family of little Naomi Farrington after the Evening Post launched an appeal for cash to help improve her quality of life.

People have already been pledging money for the campaign — and 1,700 has already been raised towards the 20,000 appeal total.

More than 20 family and friends of two-year-old Cystic Fibrosis sufferer Naomi donned fancy dress and endured freezing temperatures to raise money for essential equipment for the toddler.

The group turned heads with their array of fantastic costumes which were donated by Paul Daniel's Magic Party Shop, in Mesnes Street, as they toured Wigan's pubs.

It is just one small step towards their ultimate goal of raising 20,000 to buy a special compression vest for Naomi so she will no longer have to endure two hours of gruelling, manual physiotherapy each day.

Naomi's mum, Sarah Prowse, said: "I'm so happy that the Wigan Evening Post has decided to launch this campaign.

"We need as much help as we can get and with the paper's help more people will get to know about Naomi so we might be able to help her much sooner than we'd hoped."

Naomi, who lives in Ince with her mum and dad, Christopher Farrington, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis 12 months ago. As well as the physiotherapy, she must take 14 tablets and 25mls of medicine each day.

She also uses a nebuliser and two inhalers.

Tracy Morris and Debbie Warrington, Naomi's aunt and great aunt, are just two of the toddler's huge family, which is heading the fund-raising effort.

Tracy, 40, of Standish Lower Ground, said: "I can't believe the generosity of the people we met on the night.

"People in the street were just stopping and throwing money in our buckets as we walked through the town centre. But taxis and buses were also pulling over so people could get out and give us money.

"Considering it was such a quiet night in the town centre we did so well.

"The costumes were amazing from Paul Daniels' shop so I think they gave us a lot of attention. There is no doubt we wouldn't have made as much money without them."

Among the colourful costumes in Friday's pub crawl were a belly dancer, a caveman, a gorilla, a tramp, the big bad wolf and Captain America.

Tracy said: "We certainly stopped a lot of people in their tracks, especially when a parrot and a rooster got up on stage to do the Birdie Dance in Reflex bar. People were putting money in our buckets but after finding about Naomi they were reaching in their pockets again.

"We are so amazed that everyone has been so helpful. Last week we had our heads in our hands thinking all this would be so hard but, now the public has shown their kindness and the Wigan Evening Post has offered to help, it has restored my faith in human nature."

If anyone would like to make a donation, cheques must be payable to Naomi's Fight. Send to Kristina Santus, Wigan Evening Post, Martland Mill, Martland Mill Lane, Wigan. WN5 0LX
