Cheerleader to teach her skillful art
Wigan Warriors cheerleader Emily Taylor will soon be passing on her pom-pom skills to a new generation of youngsters.
The 22-year-old, who is now in her sixth season with the Warrior Girls, is setting up training sessions at Total Fitness in Goose Green.
And she is hoping the classes will also give her a chance to try out her newly-acquired teaching knowledge.
Because although Emily's current role at Total Fitness is working part time in the cafe, she is also studying for a degree in primary education at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk.
Emily, of Bell Lane, Kitt Green, said: "I'm really looking forward to getting started. The aim is to teach cheer routines and pom-pom dances.
"My background is very much dance based – everything from street dance and disco to show dancing – so anyone who joins the class will be keeping their feet on the ground: I don't do acrobatics!"
Emily, who worked in a children's nursery before making the move back into full-time education, is part of an 18-strong team of women who make up the Warrior Girls.
She said: "We only cheer at home matches, but that still means every other weekend, but I enjoy it and it will be great to pass on what I learnt over the past few years."
The classes, which are for ages four to 12, begin on February 2 and will run from 5.30pm to 6.30pm every Tuesday. They are open to both non-members (7.50 per session) and members.
There will also be a free cheerleader taster session at Total Fitness on Warrington Road, Goose Green, from 10am to 11am on Sunday, January 31, as part of an open weekend at the club.
Call 01942 362800 to book a place on the taster session.
